Tackling Titanium Alloy Machining Challenges: New AP351S Milling Grade Launches to Deliver Innovative Solutions for Efficiency and Quality
Against the current backdrop of the aerospace industry facing the dual challenges of increasingly complex component structures and rising machining difficulty, manufacturers must also balance the dual requirements of high efficiency and high precision. Traditional high-strength, high-toughness materials such as titanium alloys, superalloys and precipitation hardening stainless steels present intractable issues during machining — including high cutting forces, elevated cutting temperatures and severe tool wear — making them widely recognized as "tough nuts" in the machining field. In addition, aerospace components feature an extremely high blank material removal rate. While pursuing high-efficiency cutting, the machining quality of critical surfaces must also be guaranteed, which imposes stringent requirements on tools’ ability to reduce built-up edge (BUE) formation and resist chemical wear.

To overcome these machining challenges for aerospace components, ACHTECK Tools has successfully developed the wear-resistant, high-temperature-resistant AP351S milling grade, leveraging innovative substrate preparation technology combined with elaborately designed coating structures. Verified by multiple rigorous tests, the AP351S delivers outstanding performance when cutting difficult-to-machine materials, especially titanium alloys, providing customers with machining solutions that combine high efficiency, long service life and superior surface quality.

AP351S Previous Products

Under identical working conditions and the same machining duration, the AP351S demonstrates significantly lower wear than conventional products.

The AP351S grade is mainly available across three product lines of ACHTECK Tools: high-feed milling cutters, shoulder milling cutters and profile milling cutters. The diversified options work in tandem to solve machining challenges and enable high-efficiency, high-precision machining:
High-feed milling cutters: The new XO series, together with the classic XDLT and LNMX high-feed milling cutters, provides reliable solutions for rapid blank stock removal.
Shoulder milling cutters: The AD and AO two positive, light-cutting series feature low cutting forces and meet machining requirements from roughing to semi-finishing.
Profile milling cutters: The RO series is dedicated to blade machining, with various specifications and chip breaker profiles covering heavy roughing to finishing operations.

Going forward, we will launch more specialized cutting tools with higher efficiency, higher precision and higher reliability to meet the strict requirements of machining customers for machining accuracy, efficiency, environmental protection and energy conservation. Stay tuned for more updates.
